Unlike in Moscow, in Saint Petersburg the historic architecture of the city centre, mostly consisting of Baroque and neoclassical buildings of the 18th and 19th centuries, has been largely preserved. One of the largest  and oldest museums of the world, the Hermitage Museum, founded in 1764 by Catherine the Great and open to the public since 1852 comprises nearly 3 million items, including the largest collection of paintings in the world.
Saint Petersburg is served by Pulkovo International Airport, and by three smaller commercial and cargo airports in the suburbs. There is a regular rapid-bus transit connection between Pulkovo airport and the city centre.
